The Flying Eagles recorded a resounding victory against their Sudanese counterparts in the first leg, second round game of the 2009 African Youths Championship (AYC), decided at the National Stadium, Abuja on Saturday by winning a convincing 5–0.
Haruna Lukman opened the floodgate of goals in the 14th minute when he scored from the penalty spot. He over celebrated his goal by pulling out his shirt and the center referee issued him a yellow card.
Ganiyu Oseni got the second goal to put first half score at 2–0.
After the break, the Sudanese made spirited attempts to reduce the tally but their efforts proved futile.
Midway into the second half, Flying Eagles Emenike Nkwume made it three, while Gbolahan Salami and Chrisantus Macaulay completed the rout by scoring the fourth and fifth goals respectively.
Speaking after the game, coach Ladan Bosso, praised his wards for their impressive display, urging them not to relent until they pick the AYC ticket.
Also reacting, Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) president, Alhaji Sanni Lulu said the players had done the country proud, even as he advised them to spend the Salah an independent holidays in camp to prepare for the second leg.
The return leg game comes up in another two weeks.
