Arsenal was lucky to escape, says Porto's coach

FC Porto's coach Jesualdo Ferreira had nothing but praise for his team, after they successfully beat Arsenal to the top spot in Group G of the Champions League.

The Champion's League trophy

Last night's clash was just to determine who would top the group since both Porto and Arsenal had already qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Porto did not hesitate to capitalise on their opponents' inexperience as they secured a 2-0 win, after Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger opted to send out a relatively young team since the Gunners needed only a draw.

"They fielded several young players but with more maturity than my boys.

We were able to stop their attacking play because we defended well and we were humble".

"Bruno Alves scored another great goal to give us the lead and in the second half, we increased the pressure on our opponents and forced them away from our goal.

We should have won by a larger margin but this was still a good way to finish because this is the second year in a row we have won our group," coach Jesualdo Ferreira told uefa.com after the match.

Topping the group gives Porto a distinct advantage as they play the second leg at home, but coach Ferreira is as yet indifferent about whom his side is likely to face.

"I don't want to talk about our possible opponents in the next round. Let's just wait and see who we face" he added.
