The first training session for pre selected players of the Junior Lions ahead of the World Championships in Egypt later this year has gone underway in Akono, a locality situated in the outskirts of Cameroon’s capital, Yaoundé.
The training session which started on April 27, is bringing together 33 players from the local championships. Junior Lions Coach Alain Wabo Nicknamed “Capello” and his assistant Engelbert Mbarga are trying to add some fresh legs to the squad that finished second at the African Championships in Rwanda several weeks ago.
“I am in need of new players that can also fight for a place after the African Championships”, Said the Cameroon tactician.
We are also looking at positions which were not very strong during the Rwanda competition. There are three of them which gave me problems in putting in place my tactical disposition. He added.
Alain Wabo has decided to take the bull by the horn by carrying out training sessions with the pre selected players himself and not rely on information from his colleagues, like he did before the African Championships.
That is the reason why every body is being given the opportunity to showcase their talents. Nine players from the camp will join 16 professionals playing in Europe for the second training session scheduled for August 16 to 30 in Yaoundé.
After the camp those finally retained will travel to Egypt to acclimatize with the conditions, before the championships begin. The Junior World Cup is expected to start on September 24 and the four semi finalists at the African Champions South Africa, Ghana, Cameroon, Nigeria and host Egypt shall represent the continent.
