Hosts Nigeria have won the 2010 Wafu Cup of Nations with a 2-0 win over a resolute Senegal side on Sunday evening in Abeokuta.
This is the first international tournament of any kind to be won by a senior Nigerian men's team since the Africa Cup of Nations in 1994.
Two second half goals from Rueben Gabriel and Solomon Okpako was what secured the hosts victory.
The first half of the final was evenly matched, but the game sprang into life when Gabriel struck seven minutes into the second period.
His headed goal sparked Senegal into life and they created a period of sustained pressure - without result.
Gabriel's opening goal was off an Ikechukwu Ibenegbu freekick before Okpako secured victory with a cool slot into the Senegalese goal three minutes to time.
Watched by a packed capacity home crowd eager for victory, the Super Eagles did not disappoint as they emerged winners over their neighbours with the two well taken strikes.
This was the first edition of the West African regional tournament to take place since 2004.
Reports monitored on the BBC Sport website quotes the Nigerian coach Daniel Amokachi thus, "These boys deserve respect for their achievement, it was not easy to play five games in ten days."
"Already five of them have earned a place in the provisional squad of Nigeria for the World Cup, an indication of how far they have come at a short time," Amokachi said.
The Super Eagles team B who had failed to qualify for the 2011 CHAN tournament celebrated late into the night with their vociferous fans.
Ghana finished third after beating Burkina Faso 1-0 in the play-off match.
Opoku Jordan's lone strike for the local Black Stars in the 42nd minute was enough to separate both sides.
