Falconets coach not happy with semi-final play despite win

COACH of the Falconets, Ndem Adat Egan is not pleased with the standard of play exhibited by his team despite the 1-0 victory over Colombia to qualify for the finals of the FIFA Women's U-20 World Cup in Germany.

"Well, while our team tried their best, today was not the best performance by them and I am not very happy. They did not play the game they were supposed to play.

But our project was to get to the final and we have made it. Other than that, I thought the game was balanced," said the 54-year old coach.

The former Calabar Rovers player, lauded his girls for being able to defend the lone goal scored through Ebere Orji for 88minutes.

"I give thanks to God for the early goal and the way that we were able to hold on to it until the end of the game. It shows our determination to make sure we do not concede a goal," Egan said after the epic semi-final clash.

Also speaking, defender, Rebecca Kalu said getting to the final was the dream of the Falconets but stressed they could turn the tables against the host, Germany in Sunday's final in Bielefeld.

"We are really pleased to get to the final. It was our goal at the start of the tournament and we thought we could do it.

Sunday's final will be an equal game. We know Germany have got very good players. What will I dream about in bed tonight? I will dream of lifting the trophy," she said.

Meanwhile, Coach of Colombia, Ricardo Rozo has expressed satisfaction with the feat attained by the South American country in its debut at the global championship.

"Our nation are still proud of us but it's unfortunate that sometimes it's the little details that decide a game like today.

We lost a goal in the second minute and after that, we tried to get a goal back but unfortunately we were unable to.

We had the right attitude and I can say nothing against my players because we tried until the end to make a goal," Rozo said.
