No fewer than 300 runners will take part in the 6th Obudu International Mountain Race scheduled to hold on Nov. 27 in Obudu, Cross River.
The annual mountain race, now in its sixth edition, is the highest paying mountain race in the world, with 50,000 dollars as its star prize.
A statement by the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Williams Archibong, said Gov. Liyel Imoke of Cross River directed the organisers to ensure this year’s edition was better than the previous ones.
Archibong said the governor directed the LOC to begin preparations early for this year’s championship, which would run simultaneously with the African Nations Mountain Running Championship.
He said Imoke also directed that the local participants should begin training early for the competition.

The LOC chairman said the managers of the resort assured the governor that facilities for the race including the accommodation were ready.
He said this year’s race would be bigger as arrangements had been completed to introduce the women’s version of the African Mountain Running Championship.
“This year’s event will be bigger. We are introducing the African Mountain Running Championship for the women to complement that of the men, which started last year.
“We are already in constant touch with the President of the World Mountain Running Association (WMRA), Bruno Gozzelini and officials of the AFN to ensure that the event is hitch-free,” he said.
The Obudu Mountain Race covers a distance of 11 kilometres uphill, to an altitude of 1,575 metres above sea level.
