House of Reps Swear In Dorathy Mato To Replace Hembe

The Speaker of the House of Representatives has finally sworn in Benue Lawmaker, Dorathy Mato

The Supreme Court had ordered that former lawmaker, Herman Hembe, should vacate the seat and refund all monies received since 2015 and that Mrs. Mato be sworn in immediately.

Mato was ushered into the chamber by the sergeant-at-arms at about 11:42 am before the oath was administered on her.

Mato’s swearing-in comes three months after the Supreme Court ruled that she was the validly elected representative for the constituency. The Supreme Court had ordered Hembe to also refund all monies he received since 2015 when represented the constituency.

The apex court had also recently warned Dogara of the consequences of disobeying its order concerning Hembe. The court, through the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, said such disobedience would spell doom for Nigeria’s democracy as it urged Dogara to omply with its decision.
